Swiss President Hopes to Strengthen Ties with China

Swiss President Adolf Ogi said that his country cherishes its long-standing friendship with China and expects to further strengthen the friendly relations in all aspects in the future.

"Switzerland cherishes the long-standing friendship with China. The two countries have been enjoying good relations in economic cooperation," Ogi said in a recent interview with Xinhua before his three-day visit to China which is expected to begin on Tuesday.

Ogi will attend official ceremonies and exhibitions in Beijing and Shanghai to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Switzerland is one of the first western countries which recognized the People's Republic of China.

"Switzerland wants to see China's early accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO)," Ogi added.

Switzerland is one of the two WTO members which have not yet concluded bilateral negotiations with China on China's WTO accession.

Ogi pledged that he would make a good use of his on-coming trip to China to further strengthen his country's cooperation with China in all aspects.
