Chinese Leader Meets with Sudanese President

President Jiang Zemin met with Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed El-Bashir on Saturday morning at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in downtown New York, and the two leaders exchanged views on how to further develop bilateral ties.

During the meeting, Bashir voiced satisfaction with the smooth development of the Sudan-China relations, saying that the two countries have made effective cooperation in all fields.

The Sudanese president said his country received China's political support in the international community, and that China has made great efforts in aiding Sudan in its economic construction.

China has become a cooperative partner in Sudan's petroleum field, and Sudan encourages China's more participation in the construction in its other fields, Bashir said.

President Jiang and President Bashir arrived in New York to attend the Millennium Summit, which concluded Friday at the U.N. headquarters in New York.
