15 Export Processing Zones to Go in Operation

A total of 15 export processing zones (EPZs) will be put into operation in early October, a senior Chinese official said Saturday in Xiamen.

Detailed rules and regulations of the zones will also take effects at the same time, said Zhao Guanghua, vice general director of China Administration of Customs, on the Fourth China Fair for Investment and Trade which opened yesterday.

New overseas investors who plan to start processing trade in China are the main customers of EPZs, said Gao Hucheng, assistant minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Overseas investors could get efficient and convenient services in EPZs, said Gao.

China is now trying to link up the EPZs with the world's free trade zones, which will help the EPZs adopt the internationalized management system.

The processing trade has covered many of China's industries at present. The import and export volume of the processing trade recorded 105.64 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of this year, up 29.3 percent over the same period last year and accounting for 48.7 percent of the nation's total foreign trade volume.
