Vietnam National Orchestra to Stage in Beijing

The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) will make its China debut at Beijing's Century Theater on September 15.

Performance organizers with Century Performance Corporation said Friday in Beijing that the VNSO plans to visit China to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam.

The orchestra will play two pieces of Western music as well as one Chinese piece and one Vietnamese piece, the organizers said.

Since its establishment in 1959, the orchestra has received all-round support from the Vietnamese government. Most of the musicians in the orchestra were educated in music conservatories in the former Soviet Union and East European countries.

Under the baton of Fukumura Yoshiichi, a well-known Japanese conductor, the VNSO started to gain world fame.

Mao Weihui, a promising Chinese pianist, will perform a concerto with the orchestra.
