Hughes Network Finds Chinese Partner for DirecPC
Hughes Network System (HNS) under the U.S. satellite giant, Hughes Facilities, has teamed up with a Chinese electronic company to jointly adapt its patented personal computer, DirecPC, for the Chinese market.
Under an agreement signed between the HNS and Nanning Shengli Electronic Holding Co., the first batch of DirecPCs will be seen on the local market before the end of this year.
Hughes Network System will provide production facilities and key technology for the Shengli Electronic Holding Co. to develop the Chinese version of the computer program to be installed on computers sold in China.
The DirecPC computer depends on satellites for data transmission, which can increase the Internet browsing speed to 400 KB per second and the document transmission speed to 3 MB per second. It has made bulk audio and video transfers possible at a high speed and low cost.
