HK Chief Executive Stresses Partnership with Civil Service Unions

Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Friday encouraged civil servants to continue to serve the community with their fine tradition of public service.

The chief executive made the remark at a meeting with civil service representatives to listen to their views on improving services and various aspects of the civil service reform.

The representatives were from the Government Disciplined Services General Union, and the staff side of the Disciplined Services Consultative Council, the Senior Civil Service Council, the Model Scale 1 Staff Consultative Council and the Police Force Council.

Tung said the government highly values communication with the staff side.

"All members of the Hong Kong civil service, whether they are in management, supervisory or frontline positions, have the same mission of serving the Hong Kong community. The government certainly agrees that the management and the staff side are partners in realizing this mission," he said.

The chief executive expressed appreciation to all civil servants for responding positively to EPP (Enhanced Productivity Program) measures and keeping their morale high.

"Our services have improved in terms of both quality and quantity, as a result of concerted efforts of all our colleagues.

"We shall continue to improve on our quality of service, which is also the community's expectation," he said.
