China's WTO Entry Is Around the Corner

Multilateral negotiations for China's WTO entry are stepping up in Geneva, and the frames of legal documents have already come into being, remarked Wen Zaixing, director of general office of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, at the press conference of the Fourth China Investment and Trade Talks.

Following the agreement reached between the US and China last year, the pace for China's entry into the WTO has been speeded up. So far 35 out of 37 member countries have already concluded agreements with China with the exception of Swiss and Mexico.

The efforts for joining the WTO should be exerted in the following three phases, Wen added. First, adjust for the completion of, and improve the existing laws and regulations on foreign trade and build up China's economic and trade law system adapted to the rules and regulations of the WTO. Secondly, intensify the training of managers by stages and batches in large-sized state-owned enterprises and officials in economy and management sectors of the government and talents mastering the ABC of the WTO. Thirdly, make a good preparation and research on the potential influences and problems after China's WTO entry and hasten the reform of SOEs and the foreign trade management system and transformation of ways in management by government sectors.
