College of Machinery Engineering Jointly Shaped by Jiaotong and Michigan Universities in ShanghaiAugust 21 saw the inauguration of the college of machinery engineering jointly put up by Jiaotong and Michigan Universities in Shanghai. An agreement of cooperation signed by the two parties indicates that Jiaotong University is heading for the first-rate university in the world.Located in Detroit, an auto city in America, University of Michigan is an internationally renowned one with its engineering school ranking among the top 10 in the US and its machinery engineering in especial of the top three. By cooperating with the University of Michigan, the Jiaotong University is trying to confer students with academic degrees by the two sides and conduct bilingual teaching within four to five years. In accordance with the agreement, the University of Michigan will send two reputed professors to take up the posts of vice president of the college and work out new teaching programs so as to help create a study ambience similar to that of the Michigan University. The new college will follow the curricula system of the Michigan University and carry out bilingual teaching with some courses adopting the way of long distance education. After graduation, students can continue their study in University of Michigan or can pursue further study in Jiaotong University for master degree. The newly enrolled students of the college will enjoy the new teaching method as from this autumn term onwards. |
