New Auto Tail Gas Purifier Developed in ChinaChina has developed the world's first auto exhaust gas purifier using microwave catalyzing technology, which is capable of rendering the purified exhaust gas up to European standard EU2.The purified exhaust gas is also very close to EU3, or the next generation auto exhaust emission standard set by the European Union. The purifier was developed by a group of researchers headed by Dr. Zhang Jinsong, a research fellow at the Institute of Metal Research, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), as one of the key State-funded research programs between 1996-2000. Zhang said they also developed another exhaust gas purifying technique using an improved electric catalysis with similar results. He said the two techniques, already patented, could meet EU2 standards, which will be introduced in 2004 by China as its standard for auto exhaust gas emission for the next generation. "Commercializing the two techniques in China and application by Chinese auto plants of the techniques will break the monopoly of overseas products and techniques on the Chinese auto exhaustgas purifier markets," said Zhang. The auto exhaust gas purifier market in China has been dominated by American and German products, as locally made purifiers could not meet the requirements of the EU1, or the No.1 auto exhaust gas emission standard set by the European Union, currently used by China as the national standard. The new technique and its products have passed an appraisal by experts last month, which was organized by the Ministry of Sciences and Technology. Zhang said the techniques will be used by the Changchun-based China First Automobile Group Corp., one of the three leading autoplants in China. |
