Japan Provides Donation to Chinese County

The Japanese government Friday provided a donation of 10 million Japanese Yen (about 750,000 RMB yuan) to Guanghe county in northwest China's Gansu province.

The donation will be used in launching a project in the county to provide water for more than 2,000 people and some 66 hectares of dry land.

Leading officials from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and the province expressed gratitude for the donation provided by the Japanese government and people at the signing ceremony.

They also expressed the hope that Sino-Japanese cooperation will even more fruitful in the future.

Yuji Miyamoto, minister of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing, expressed the hope at the occasion that the donation would play a role in improving the living standards of local people.

The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council began to help Guanghe county in eliminating poverty in 1995. With the help of the office, the Japanese side decided to present such a donation to the mountainous county.
