State Councilor Meets Macao SAR Chief Executive

Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi met Friday with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and his delegation who are attending the Fourth China Investment and Trade Fair in Xiamen.

Wu said that she is glad to see that Macao's economy is slowly recovering in less than one year after it returned to the motherland.

She said that the Central Government is very concerned about economic development in Macao.

She added that she believes that the Macao people, under the leadership of Ho, will continue to carry out the principles of "one country, two systems," "Macao people governing Macao," and a high degree of self-government.

Wu said that the Macao people will surely be united and make efforts for the prosperity of the motherland.

Wu noted that the total economic and trade volume between the mainland and Macao amounted to 472 million US dollars in the January-July period, up 32 percent from a year earlier.

Ho expressed his thanks to the Central Government for the support it has given to Macao SAR.

He said the economy in Macao is expected to grow next year.

Wu also exchanged views with members of the Macao business delegation on developing economic and trade cooperation between the mainland and Macao.
