China Road Rally Opens in Shaoguan
The third leg of the 2000 China Road Rally kicked off in Shaoguan, Guangdong province, on September 7.
It also is the fourth competition of the Asia-Pacific Road Rally, sponsored by the International Motors Federation (IMF).
Fifty-three racing cars have been approved by the IMF and designated as either Group A and Group N cars will enter the race. The cars include those made by Fuji, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, and Jetta, etc. This competition has attracted excellent drivers from Japan, Australia, Italy, Malaysia, China Hong Kong and China Taipei.
The race is divided for cars in Group A and Group N and will last for three days. There will be thirteen sections covering a total length of 276.26 kilometers. The plum blossom petal-shape route, which means that the racecar drivers must return to the same starting point at the end of the race is based on IMF regulations. The road is covered with sand.
