Olympic Athlete Killed in Accident

A Nigerian athlete was killed when struck by a car while running for a bus to return to the Olympic village Thursday night, according to broadcast reports. New South Wales police refused Friday to release the identity of the man until relatives had been informed. But the Australian Broadcasting Corp. and Channel Seven identified the man as Hyginus Anugo, 22, a 400-meter runner. Channel Seven said he was killed while running to catch a bus back to the Olympic village. Sydney Olympics spokesman Milton Cockburn said officials had been in contact with Nigeria since the accident, but declined to provide any more information.
