Grounded Taiwan Ship Rescued in Guangdong

A large Taiwan ship that was grounded at the eastern coast of Guangdong Province from the effect of typhoon Maria early this month was recovered.

The ship is now being repaired in Shantou Port of Guangdong.

On the early morning of September 1, while typhoon Maria attacked Guangdong from the juncture between Shanwei and Huizhou, both in Guangdong Province, "Tongli" Ship, a 30,000-dwt cargo liner belonging to Xinyou Shipping Co. Ltd of Taiwan, lost control in the offshore areas near Shanwei. The ship was on its voyage from Shekou of Shenzhen to Qinhuangdao of north China's Hebei Province when it was grounded in the offshore areas near Shanwei.

After being informed of the accident, the Guangzhou Rescue and Salvage Bureau sent three tug boats and one engineering ship to add to the rescue effort.

The ship was able to be retrieved four hours after the tide set in, late at night on September 5. In the small hours of September 6, the grounded Taiwan ship was eventually dragged into the deep sea areas where it set sail.

The Taiwan ship reached Shantou Port for minor repairs Thursday afternoon.
