Moscow Blast Injures 14 PeopleA bomb attack in central Moscow has injured 14 people. Thirteen of the victims are women, all thought to be prostitutes according to police. The attack, just before dawn on Thursday, occurred when a man threw a grenade into the group in Sukharevskaya Square and then escaped in a car. The square is one of many areas in Moscow frequented by prostitutes and pimps who stand around waiting for clients. All of the injured were taken to hospital with shrapnel and blast wounds. The attack could be linked to organised crime fighting over control of prostitution, a police official told the Associated Press news agency. But the official also said the blast might be linked to the war in Chechnya, where Russian forces are battling Islamic rebels. A spokesman from Moscow police told the Russian Itar-Tass news agency that "a person with Caucasian looks" hurled the grenade. |
