Union Helps Enhance Education SystemThe Chinese Educational Workers' Union will contribute to the drive to revitalize the nation through science and technology.The union is an indispensable force in promoting the expansion of China's education system, according to today's China Daily. Zhang Junjiu, vice-chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, said the largest body in the country's education sector should continue to build up morals, improve skills and continue educating students. Speaking at a seminar to mark the 50th anniversary of the organization Wednesday in Beijing, Zhang spoke highly of the union in advancing the country's educational, cultural, economic and social progress. The union has registered 12.4 million members since it was founded on August 2, 1950, marking it one of the largest trade unions in China. Over the past half century, the union has concentrated on educational reform and development, helped educational workers have their say and protected the rights of teachers. "With its outstanding achievements and distinct character, the union has become a mass organization that the workers support and have faith in," Zhang said. The union is involved in running 97 percent of China's universities and institutes and 94 percent of its high schools, according to You Guodong, vice-chairman of the union. |
