State Councilor Meets US Economist

State Councilor Wu Yi met in Xiamen Thursday with Lawrence Robert Klein, a well-known American economist and Nobel economic prize laureate and his party.

Wu noted that Klein has done a lot of research into China's economy, and thus understands China's economic situation quite well.

She said that she hopes Klein and his colleagues would put forward their own ideas about the future development of China's economy and China's investment environment.

Klein said people outside China are glad to see the great achievements China has made in its economic development at the turn of the century.

China's economy has become a subject for many overseas scholars, Klein said, adding that China's economy is a model of successful transition.

He said that he is quite confident about China's future.

Wu also exchanged views with the guests on the new economy appearing and the development of the world economy.

Klein and his party are here attending the 4th China Investment and Trade Fair.
