Anniversary of Educational Workers' Trade Union Marked

A forum was held in Beijing Wednesday to mark the 50th founding anniversary of the Educational Workers' Trade Union of China.

The celebration received an inscription by Li Peng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Political Bureau and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Wei Jianxing, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau and president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, wrote a letter to the meeting.

In his letter, Wei praised educational workers' trade unions across the country for their adherence to the basic line of the CPC and efforts to promote democratic management in schools, and safeguard the legal rights and interests of the educational workers.

He urged the unions to play a bigger role in fostering qualified professionals for the great cause to build socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The forum was held on the eve of China's 16th Teachers Day which falls on September 9.
