Jiuquan-Dunhuang Trade Fair Opens

The Third Jiuquan-Dunhuang Economic and Trade Fair opened Wednesday in Jiuquan city, in northwest China's Gansu Province.

The fair aims to absorb more investment, technology and technical personnel from other parts of China and abroad under the country's strategy to speed up development of western China.

The current session offers Chinese and foreign businessmen 161 projects and provides businessmen with preferential treatment in terms of taxation, land use and the transfer of property rights.

Xing Tongyi, deputy secretary of the Jiuquan Prefectural Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, said his prefecture welcomes investment in machinery, new product development, bio-engineering and the prevention of pests.

Jiuquan, on the western tip of the ancient Silk Road, covers an area of 195,000 sq. km, accounting for 43 percent of the territory in Gansu. It is known to the outside world for the Jiuquan Satellite Launching Center, China's first Oilfield, the Yumen Oilfield and the Dunhuang Grottoes.
