Big Bonus Increases for Olympic Personnel Reported in China

To encourage Chinese Olympians winning out with flying colors from Sydney Olympics, the State General Administration of Sport has decided on an enlarged amount of money input into the work of scientific research on sports and a greater increase of bonuses for Olympic sci-tech personnel than for last Olympics.

Cui Fuguo, officer of the Sci-Tech Department of the State General Administration of Sport, said that all 57 sci-tech research units will be duly commended following a general assessment of their contributions made in advancing the country's Olympic events through Sydney Olympics. Contrasting a first prize bonus of RMB$12,000 yuan as for last Olympics, a sum of as much as RMB$80,000 yuan has been set for a first prize winner and a bonus of RMB$40,000 and 20,000 yuan to grant second and third prize winners respectively.

To help Chinese Olympians well prepare for Sydney Olympics, the State General Administration of Sport and management subsidiaries have spent a much far greater amount of money on scientific research than for last Olympics. Statistics show an accumulated amount of RMB$6.5 million yuan that has been used by the State General Administration of Sport on scientific research in the past two years and a sum total of RMB$1.17 million yuan for Atlanta Olympics.

According to Cui, when all management centers' expenditures on sports scientific research are included the total spending will add up to a sum of as many as RMB$12 million yuan for Sydney Olympics.
