US AIA Foundation Donates to China's Marrow Gene Pool

The American International Assurance Foundation, based in the United States, Wednesday donated 450,000 yuan (about 54,000 U.S. dollars) to support bone marrow gene pool development in Shenzhen, in southern Guangdong Province.

Patients with thalassemia or leukemia can only survive with a marrow transplant. Shenzhen, as a city of immigrants, has a great advantage of collecting various types of marrow.

About 300,000 patients with leukemia will hopefully benefit from the gene pool.
