US AIA Foundation Donates to China's Marrow Gene Pool
The American International Assurance Foundation, based in the
United States
, Wednesday donated 450,000 yuan (about 54,000 U.S. dollars) to support bone marrow gene pool development in Shenzhen, in southern Guangdong Province.
Patients with thalassemia or leukemia can only survive with a marrow transplant. Shenzhen, as a city of immigrants, has a great advantage of collecting various types of marrow.
About 300,000 patients with leukemia will hopefully benefit from the gene pool.
