50 Students in East China to Enter College Without Taking Exam

Today is a special day for 50 Chinese middle school students in Jinhua in east China's Zhejiang Province.

After completing their senior high school education, which lasts three years, at the middle school attached to Zhejiang Normal University (ZHNU), they are to receive their higher education directly at the ZHNU without taking the national college and university entrance examination. All the students who attend ZHNU go there specifically to become teachers.

"Usually, all middle school students who want to receive a higher education in colleges and universities must take the entrance examination," said Zhang Yunsheng, principal of the Jinhua No.2 Middle School.

This is the first time in China to provide such entrance exam-free opportunities for middle school students, Zhang said.

Through recommendations, exams prior to graduation, and approval from middle school officials, the 50 students were selected from 1,000 candidates across the province, he said.

In the three years, the middle school students will finish all courses required by the middle school teaching system. Meanwhile, the school will offer them diversified training programs.
