Cross-Straits Research Center Opened in Beijing

China unveiled a new cross-Straits relations research center today in a fresh move to strengthen research on problems emerging in Taiwan and cross-Straits relations.

Chen Yunlin, director of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said at the center's inauguration that the mainland has both the sincerity of achieving peaceful reunification and the firm determination and necessary preparations to stop any separatist activities.

Wang Daohan, president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), sent a letter to the opening ceremony, calling on the center's staff members to work hard and contribute to the great cause of peaceful reunification.

Wang will act as the honorable director and senior advisor to the research center, while Tang Shubei, executive vice-president of the ARATS, will be director of the center.
