Int'l Expo of Environmental Protection Opens in Dalian

The China International Exposition of Environmental Protection opened Wednesday in Dalian, a coastal city with excellent environment in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Over 300 research institutes and environment companies from countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Austria, Hong Kong and Taiwan participated in the expo.

The expo, covering an area of 12,000 square meters, displays the most advanced technologies, facilities and products in the fields of treatment of air pollution, sewage and garbage, and environmental monitoring.

Most of the exhibited items come from China's universities and research institutes, showing the rapid development of environmental protection industry in China.

Xie Zhenhua, director of the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), said at the opening ceremony of the expo that China's environmental protection industry increased at a speed of 10 percent annually and will be accelerated to 15 percent in the coming five years.

China will continue to perfect environmental policies, increase investment in environmental protection, strengthen research in this field and promote the development of the environmental protection industry, Xie said.
