Tibet Consistent with Central Government on the Dalai Lama Issue

Xu Mingyang, vice-chairman of the Tibet autonomous regional people's government, said Wednesday that the stance of the regional government on the issue of the Dalai Lama has always been consistent with that of the central government.

At a meeting with Erwin Marschwski, a German parliament member from the Union Party, Xu said the Dalai Lama's activity of splitting the motherland has never ceased.

The Dalai Lama advocates Tibet's independence at one time and offers for negotiations on the other considering changes in the international situation, Xu said, adding, however, the Dalai Lama's final purpose is to split the motherland.

He said the central government's position on the issue of the Dalai Lama is clear-cut, that is, the door for dialogues is always open, but the precondition is that the Dalai Lama must abandon his stand for "Tibet independence," stop his separatist activities, and openly recognize Tibet as an inalienable part of China.

Marschwski and his party are on a five-day visit to Tibet.
