Chinese State Councilor Meets Madagascar Minister

Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi, in a meeting Wednesday with Madagascar Minister of Commerce and Consumption Alphonse Randrianambinina, said that China is satisfied with its economic and trade ties with Madagascar, and hopes to promote such relations based on equality and mutual benefit.

Pointing to a record 45 million U.S. dollars in bilateral trade last year, Wu said that she believes that Randrianambinina's visit to China will help promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation, expressing the hope that through joint efforts, the two countries will have balanced trade in the years ahead.

Wu said that China welcomes products from Madagascar which are competitive and suitable to the Chinese market, adding that the Chinese government will convene the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, a ministerial-level meeting scheduled for October 10-12 in Beijing, where the two sides will discuss ways to further their political, economic and trade relations.

Randrianambinina said that bilateral relations have been developing steadily since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, reiterating that Madagascar will continue to pursue the One-China policy, and make efforts to advance its economic and trade cooperation with China.

The two countries agreed to increase the exchange of information and inform each other about their respective situations, so as to boost trade ties.

Randrianambinina expressed gratitude for China's assistance in Madagascar's economic development.

He said that Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and set up factories in Madagascar, adding that his ministry will actively participate in the forum meeting in Beijing next month.
