Macao SAR Govt Signs Agreement with MicrosoftThe Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government signed an agreement with Microsoft Hong Kong Wednesday to purchase the latter's software at favorable prices. On behalf of the Macao SAR government, Lidia da Luz, director of the Administration and Civil Service Bureau, signed the agreement with Graham Brant, general manager of Microsoft Hong Kong. The agreement was signed following months of negotiation between the two sides. In accordance with a decree of the chief executive of the Macao SAR on April 10 this year, no public departments can install computer software without official license of utilization. The agreement shows the Macao SAR government's respect on intellectual property rights, and the move sets a good example for individual firms and local residents, Lidia said. She noted that the program will benefit at least 44 departments and save over 7 million patacas (875,000 U.S. dollars) for the government in the coming two years.
