Wares Used by Chairman Mao to Be on Show

Twenty-six Chinese wares used by late Chairman Mao Zedong, one of the founders of new China, will appear in a fine Chinese products show scheduled from September 9-24 in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

These utensils include Chinese dishes, bowls, spoons, tea accessories and smoking sets. They have been selected from three sets of Chinese wares specially made for Mao. Each set consists of over 300 utensils.

Deng Lidong, chairman of Dongjie China Co. Ltd, and sponsor of the show, said that the products were produced in the middle and late 1970s in Jingdezhen city, Jiangxi Province.

Sixty-seven Chinese wares used by Mao were sold for 8.04 million yuan (some 960,000 U.S. dollars) at an auction on January 14, 1997. An ashtray of Mao's was auctioned for 13,000 U.S. dollars.

A group of stone statues belonging to Mao as well as souvenirs will also be put on show.
