First Tibetan Air Stewardesses

First Tibetan Air Stewardesses
A ceremony was held on 6th in this capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region to see off 15 Tibetan girls who have become the first Tibetan stewardesses.

"It has been a dream from my childhood and it has now comes true," said Ciyang, a girl from Lhasa.

These Tibetan girls have been employed by the China Southwest Airlines. It is the first time that a domestic carrier has recruited stewardesses from the ethnic Tibetan group in the Tibet Autonomous Region, said Luo Guojun, an official from the airline.

The recruitment began this June, drawing over 400 applicants from local Tibetan women who competed in a series of health examinations as well as colloquial English and Tibetan languages, according to Luo.

These girls will receive a three-month training before they start work on a passenger aircraft, he said.
