Li Peng Visits Lithuania
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, arrived in Lithuania on Tuesday for a short visit.
In a written statement distributed to the press at the airport,Li said that China is among the first countries to recognize Lithuania and build diplomatic relations with it, and consistently supports its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He hoped that the bilateral relationship will develop smoothly through joint efforts by the two countries.
Chairman of the Lithuanian parliament Vytautas Landsbergis and other officials came to the airport to welcome Li and his entourage.
Li held a formal meeting with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus at the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik before leaving for Lithuania.
