Foreign Trade Minister Meets Madagascar Guests

China's foreign trade minister Shi Guangsheng and Alphonse Randrianambinina, minister of trade and consumption of Madagascar, exchanged views Tuesday on bilateral economic and trade relations.

At their meeting, they also talked about the upcoming China-African Forum scheduled for October in Beijing.

Shi said the Chinese government attaches great importance to economic and trade ties with Madagascar and hoped that practical measures would be taken to further push forward cooperation.

He said Alphonse's visit, on the eve of the China-African Forum, is of great significance to bilateral cooperation. The traditional friendship between China and African countries should be maintained and developed in the new century, and it's important for them to do so especially when economic globalization is speeding up, he added.

Alphonse said since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Madagascar and China have supported each other and maintained friendly relations. He appreciated China's long-term assistance to Madagascar and expressed the hope that positive measures would be taken to further expand economic and trade cooperation.
