Chongqing to Give Award to Foreign Experts

Chongqing in southwest China will honor foreign experts working in the city with the "Three Gorges Friendship Award" for their outstanding contributions.

The award is a branch of "Friendship Award", China's highest for foreign experts which was set up in 1991. Prior to Chongqing, 36 provinces and cities had established similar awards with a variety of titles.

According to a foreign affairs official, the city will present the award to five foreign experts per year who have made great contributions to local economic and social development.

Chongqing is the country's fourth municipality that is near the famous Three Gorges Area.
