Chinese Urologist Urges New Technologies Used in TherapyA well-known Chinese urologist suggested Tuesday that the world medical experts should employ up-to-date technologies to treat urological diseases.In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, Gu Fangliu, professor of the Institute of Urology at Beijing University, said that the newly-developed gene therapy could also be used for curing prostate cancer or impotence. Gu, who was elected as president of the Asian Association of Urology, hopes that all branches of the life sciences should join hands to push forward the urological treatment. The 73-year-old professor also hopes his association will bridge such kind of academic exchange and clinical cooperation. Gu said that the 5th Asian Congress on Urology, which was held between August 27 and 30 in Beijing, was conducive to upgrading China's research level in the field. More than 2,000 experts from North America, Europe, other Asian countries and China participated in the congress, including authoritative urologist Donald Coffew at the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University. According to the constitution of the association, which was founded ten years ago in Japan, Gu will serve his term of office as president of the association for the coming two years.
