China Publishes "Collection of Anna Chennault's Writings"The Hebei Publishing House (HPH) of north China today released in Beijing its latest publication, the "Collection of Anna Chennault's Writings".The nine-volume collection includes most of Anna Chennault's writings from the last five decades or more. Articles on political events, stories on past experiences and memories, novels, poems, and translation works are included in the collection. According to Li Baoping, HPH president, the collection contains Anna Chennault's writings published in the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, as well as in the Chinese-language newspapers and magazines in foreign countries. Anna, born in Beijing in 1925, worked as a war correspondent for the Central News Agency from 1944 to 1948. After being married in Shanghai to Claire Lee Chennault, commander of the US 14th air fleet, she emigrated to the US and became a US citizen in 1950. Anna's experiences in the past 75 years have been a major source for her writing. Anna said she would not have written anything had it not been for her rich life experiences. Most of Anna's novels use love as a theme. She said, "One will feel happy in his life only when his heart is filled with love. Here 'love' is in a broad sense, love for the motherland, love for his people, love for his friends, and love for all those objects he admires around him. Love is more important in this material society." Anna Chennault pays steady attention to the development of education in the motherland. She has set up funds for college teachers, and donated funds for the construction of primary schools in China's rural areas. Anna plans to write another book on the ups and downs she has witnessed. Although she is engaged in business and politics, it is writing that she loves the most. "So long as I can hold a pen, I will continue writing," said Anna. She published her first book at the age of 15. |
