New Horse Race Season Begins in Hong Kong

A new horse race reason started Sunday with a symbolic drum-beat by Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee Hwa at the Sha Tin race course.

Following the opening ceremony of drum-beating and dragon dancing, the 2000/2001 race era began with the HKSAR Chief Cup, a race which was launched in the 1997/1998 season and was held hence annually to market the start of a new racing season.

Tens of thousands of spectators flooded to the race course to try their luck in the new season, after two months' repose of the racing horses.

Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Donald Tsang presented the Cup and a silver salver to the winning Owner after the race.

Horse race is every popular among Hong Kong citizens as a way of entertainment.
