Chinese President Leaves for UN Summit
Chinese President Jiang Zemin left Beijing Monday afternoon for New York to attend the United Nations Millennium Summit.

Jiang's entourage included Vice Premier Qian Qichen, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Deputy Director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Central Guard Bureau You Xigui, Deputy Director of the Policy Research Office of CPC Central Committee Wang Huning.

Other three key members of the delegation are Chinese Ambassador to the United States Li Zhaoxing, Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN Wang Yingfan and Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya, who are already in New York.

Those who saw Jiang and the delegation off at the Great Hall of the People included Vice President Hu Jintao, Vice Premier Wu Bangguo, Secretariat Member of the CPC Central Committee Zeng Qinghong, Director of the General Office of CPC Central Committee Wang Gang, Minister in charge of the Central Foreign Affairs Office Liu Huaqiu and Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

The Millennium Summit, the biggest gathering of heads of state or government in the history of the United Nations, is to be held at the UN headquarters from September 6 to 8.
