With the ceremonial click of a mouse by China Olympic Committee's honorary chairman He Zhenliang, the People's Daily Online Olympic website - www.o2000.com.cn - went online Sunday afternoon. The website provides comprehensive coverage of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
After the www.o2000.com.cn website has gone online, the People's Daily and People's Daily Overseas edition will publish a special supplement of the newspaper devoted to the Olympic Games the day before the opening ceremony September 15. The Global Times, also owned by the People's Daily, will also publish a daily newspaper about 2000 Olympics.
At the opening ceremony of the www.o2000.com.cn website, the People's Daily Online gave 5,000 multimedia CD-Roms titled "Great Olympics" to the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee. Production of the CD-Rom was overseen by the Beijing 2008 Olympic Bid Committee and published by the People's Daily Online and the Jinbao Electronic Publishing Center.
