China Leather Forum Held in East China

More than 100 Chinese and overseas scholars and entrepreneurs attended the one-day China Leather Development Forum, which was held in Haining in east China's Zhejiang Province Saturday.

The participants concentrated on the opportunities and challenges for leather development in the 21st century and sought new ways for leather development.

Zhang Shuhua, an official with the China Association of Leather Industry, said that China is a large leather goods producer in the world. However, it lags behind other countries in terms of name brand quality and export price. He said his country must shift from the previous trend of paying too much attention to quantity to a trend of paying more attention to quality.

China plans to develop three to five internationally renowned brands in the next 10 to 15 years, cultivate key genuine leather manufacturers and reduce the amount of pollution caused by leather enterprises, he added.
