Public Fete of Chinese Ancestor Staged in Tianshui
Thousands of people from home and abroad gathered Sunday attending a ceremonious fete for Fuxi, known as one of the first legendary ancestors of the Chinese Nation, in Tianshui, northwest China's Gansu Province.
The ceremony was held in front of the Fuxi Temple, the biggest temple for commemorating the ancestor in China.
Zhang Jinliang, mayor of Tianshui, read the funeral oration expressing people's wish of restoring the glory of the ancient "Silk Road" during China's efforts to develop the western region.
Tianshui, the birthplace of Fuxi, who is believed to be one of those credited with introduction of hunting, farming and fishing and of the Fuxi Culture, is generally considered the cradle of Chinese civilization.
