China's First Navy Square Opens

A ceremony was held in Dalian, a port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province September 2 to inaugurate the country's first Navy Square.

The square is the third of its kind in the world, after the ones in Britain and the United States. It covers 69,000 square meters and is decorated with over 280 trees of rare species, a music fountain, sculptures of sailors and soldiers, and a 70-meter-long naval ship.

Located at the southernmost tip of Liaodong Peninsula, Dalian is the largest port city in northeast China and an important naval base of the country.
