Economic, Trade Fairs Held in UrumqiThe Ninth Urumqi Foreign Economic and Trade Fair was well received internationally, with 76 domestic and overseas trade delegations attending the fair.The organizing committee of the fair, which opened Friday, said that 202 projects have been offered at the fair. The projects cover a dozen fields including light industry, food processing, medicine, chemical industries, infrastructure, tourism and building machinery. Transactions of property rights will be hot at this year's fair. A list of 53 items for trading of property rights, involving combined assets of 2.2 billion yuan, have been prepared for interested businessmen at the fair. During the eight-day fair, an economic forum will also be organized and well-known Chinese economic specialists will exchange views on subjects like "market and the government in developing the vast western region," " the development of the western region and capital market," "the impact of China's entry into the World Trade Organization on Xinjiang's economic development and foreign trade." The fair was first held in 1992 and foreign trade business deals from the previous eight fairs amounted to about 12 billion U.S. dollars, while deals involving internal trade and economic cooperation between Xinjiang and other parts of the country were 47.5 billion yuan. In another development, an economic and investment trade fair on the development of China's western region also opened in Urumqi. The fair was sponsored by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council to promote the economic cooperation and trade between Xinjiang and Taiwan. More than 300 people, including a 60-member trade mission from Taiwan and ten major listed companies of Taiwan region, attended the fair, which was sponsored by Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. |
