China Implements Revised Air Pollution Prevention Law

China's implementing a revised air pollution law that makes illegal any discharges of pollutants that exceed state standards.

The law provides important regulations concerning the control of coal burning, banning of highly-polluting fuel and the promotion of clean energy.

Xie Zhenhua, director of the State Environment Protection Administration, says they'll work with local government to come up with a list of key cities for pollution prevention.

That list will then be submitted to the State Council for approval.

China's Air Pollution Prevention Law was issued in September of 1987, and was revised for the first time in August of 1995.
