DPRK, S. Korea Reach Accord on 7 Issues
Negotiators of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea have reached agreement on seven issues after three days of ministerial- level talks, a joint statement said Friday.
The two sides have agreed to hold military talks to ease tension on the peninsula. They also agreed on two more family reunions this year, the establishment of a regime to protect investment and avoid double taxation, the restoration of a railway between South Korean capital Seoul and Sin'uiju in the north.
Other agreements include measures against flooding and the exchange of visits of tourist groups. They also agreed to hold a third round of ministerial talks at the end of September. The first round was held in July in Seoul. Head of South Korea's delegation, Pak Jae-gyu, who is unification minister, on Friday traveled to a northern retreat for talks with DPRK leader Kim Jong Il.
