China's Biggest APCT Production Line Being Built in Qinghai

An aluminum-plastic compound tube (APCT) production line, the biggest in China, is now under construction in Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province.

APCT, which combines the advantages of plastic and metal, is an environment-friendly material that is corrosion-proof, and can survive both high and low temperatures. It can be widely used in supplying water, gas transmission and cooling equipment.

Experts say the production line will be armed with an ultrasonic welding technique to raise the plasticity of tubes.

The Qinghai Lutong Plastic-steel Door and Window Plant and the Guangdong Foshan Jinshitong Development Co. Ltd. have invested 115.

8 million yuan (about 13.9 million U.S. dollars) in the project.

The project, to be completed by March next year, can produce 50,000 tons of aluminum-plastic compound tubes annually. The annual output value will be 120 million yuan (about 14.4 U.S. dollars).

Experts predicted that 80 percent of the water-supplying pipes in urban and rural areas would be made from APCT by 2010.
