Biography on Chinese General Published

A meeting was held Thursday in Beijing to celebrate the publication of a biography about Chinese general Su Yu.

Zhang Wannian, member of the Political Bureau and member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, as well as vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered a speech at the meeting and congratulated those involved in the publication of the biography.

Su Yu, a native of Huidong County, Hunan Province, was born in 1907 and died in 1984.

Zhang Wannian praised Su Yu's immortal deeds for the liberation of the Chinese people and his contributions to China's modernization drive and the building of national defense over the past half century.

He recalled the "glorious" life of Su during his early days and his contributions during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Invaders and the War of Liberation.

Su directed a series of major campaigns and battles, and was particularly versed in organizing large formation warfare. Su had displayed outstanding military skills, Zhang said.

Zhang further noted that during Su's 60 years of revolutionary life, he showed boundless devotion to the cause of revolution and worked in the interests of the Party and the people. He adhered to the Party's disciplines, upheld Party unity.

Zhang finally called on the meeting's participants to upheld the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, unite around the CPC Central Committee with Jiang Zemin at the core and work hard for the country's modernization.
