Protective development of West China's Cultural Relics and Resources Stressed
West China boasts numerous historical and cultural relics and rich and colorful cultural resources, the rescue, protection, and development and utilization of which is an extremely urgent task facing the large-scale development of the western region,stressed Sun Jiazheng, minister of culture, at the forum on the work of west China's culture concluded on August 25.
Sun Jiazheng pointed to the need of fully understanding the position and role of cultural construction in the western region development. The western region, an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, has a rich store of traditional Chinese culture and history and distinctive ethnic features; this area is also an important cradle of Chinese revolution, such as Zunyi of Guizhou Province, Yan'an of Shaanxi Province and Hongyan (Red Crag) Village of Chongqing Municipality-all have a profound tradition of revolutionary culture; furthermore, west China is the center of China's ethnic groups and their colorful cultures which are organic parts of Chinese culture.
He called for efforts to both promote the excellent traditional culture of the western region, and to create new western region culture with the characteristics of the region, the nation and the times.
At the end of the meeting, the Ministry of Culture presented 10 mobile cars of culture to 10 counties (county-level cities) in the pastoral areas of Qinghai Province.
