College Students to Get More Loans

More loans are expected to be provided for poor college students from this autumn, said sources from the Ministry of Education.

Student loans were tried last year and proven to be effective in cities with a high density of universities, including Beijing, Shanghai and other six cities.

The education loans for students from poor families is a major step for implementing the government strategy of reinvigorating the nation through science, technology and education.

It also helps improve the development of China's educational sector and deepen the reform of the education system, according to Friday's Chinadaily.

To inform cash-strapped students about how to apply for loans, the ministry circulated booklets in June to those sitting the national college entrance exams.

The booklets explain the State's policies and the assistance it offers to poor students.

Specific departments and individuals will be appointed by schools to establish links with regional banks to supply loans.
