China to Build 310 Geoparks

China is planning to build 310 geological parks in the next 10 years to protect its natural sites and also try to put five to eight of the geoparks into the world geo-heritage list.

To fulfill these goals, China has recently set up the Geopark Protection Office and the Geopark Evaluation Committee, the paper said.

Non-renewable natural resources provide geo-heritage with scientific and sight-seeing value and insight into the study of the planet's evolution.

Despite much headway made in the protection of natural sites, China has still yet to finish the national survey of its geo-heritage, delaying urgent protection of the sites, the paper said.

Under the protection plan drafted by the Ministry of Land and Resources, effective measures will be taken to halt the damages to the natural sites. A national heritage protection system will be established in the next 10 years.
