Life Security Benefits for Laid-off Workers UpLife security benefits for China's laid-off workers in State-owned enterprises (SOEs) was 323 yuan a month in the first half of the year, up 27.7 percent from last year.Latest statistics from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security showed that by the end of June, the number of laid-off workers from SOEs stood at 6.77 million, which was 250,000 more than that at the end of last year. About 95 percent of the laid-off workers have registered at re-employment service centers, and 96 percent of those that signed agreements with the centers received basic living allowances. However, over 170,000 laid-off workers that were registered in the re-employment service centers did not receive basic living aid due to a number of reasons. The statistics also showed that in some provinces such as Heilongjiang, Anhui, Hubei and Guangdong, the number of laid-off workers from the SOEs has decreased at least 10,000. In contrast, most other provinces including Sichuan, Hebei, Jiangxi and Qinghai, saw an increase of SOE laid-off workers.
