Tibet Presents 2000 Propitious Wedding

It must be romantic and can leave you a nice memory to hold your wedding ceremony on the snow-covered plateau witnessed by the dark blue sky and the permanent snow-capped mountains. During the holidays of the National Day, Tibet will solemnly hold for the first time the "propitious wedding" with distinctive ethnic features for the newly-weds from home and abroad.

According to Wang Jiping, director of the Shanghai Liaison Office in the Tibet Autonomous Region, sponsor of this activity, the Tibetan people have many wedding customs which have a strong character of the Tibet ethnic group, for example, if a man falls in love with a girl, he should propose to the girl with highland barley wine, and the bride should ride a pregnant mare. The propitious wedding will combine wedding ceremony, experience of folkways and sightseeing, so that more people will get to know the unique and simple life custom and the sacred and traditional Tibetan-style wedding.

For the nine-day propitious wedding, it is carefully planned that direct flight will start from Shanghai on October 1 to Lhasa; greeting the newly weds with hada at the airport of Lhasa; taking photos at the Golden Roof of the Potala Palace; praying for the happiness of the newly weds at Jokhang Temple; grand wedding and wedding witness ceremony in Norbulingka Park and Tibetan-style wedding feast and other rich and colorful activities.

With the launch of the strategy for the large-scale development of China's western region, the vast and rough west of China is becoming the focus of Chinese people's attention. Tibet, for its unique highland natural feature of "the world's Third Pole", long history and culture, mysterious folkways and other tour resources, has become one of the representatives of feature tourist products in China's west.

Statistics from the Tibet Tourism Bureau show that from January to July, the Tibet Autonomous Region had received 236,000 tourists, nearly doubling that of the same period last year. The direct income from tourism was.130 million yuan, a 33.9 percent increase over last year. The foreign travelers mainly come from the United State, Germany, Japan, Britain. and the home travelers from the economically developed coastal areas.
